A fanlisting is a place where fans of a particular subject can gather and show their support by adding their name to a list. In this case, the object of our affection is the ageless and wise Serafina Pekkala, queen of the witches of Lake Enara, and an ally of Lyra Belacqua throughout her journeys into different worlds.The witches of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy are proud, fearless women who live in the frozen north of Lyra's world. Their souls, as do all the souls in Lyra's world, manifest in the form of dæmons--animal counterparts to their physical selves. Witches are unique in that they learn to be apart from their dæmons as a test of womanhood. It would otherwise be extremely painful, and even deadly, to be distanced from your dæmon. Serafina and her dæmon, the snow goose Kaisa, join other witch tribes in a meeting to discuss the changes wrought in their world as a result of Lord Asriel's experiments. Serafina leads her tribe in the war that ensues, aiding and protecting Lyra whenever their paths cross. Serafina was once in love with Farder Coram of the Gyptians, and bore him a son. However, since the lifespan of a witch will always surpass that of lover and child (unless the child is a girl; in which case, she will become a witch as well), relationships of this sort are always painful. Serafina also develops a bond with Lee Scoresby, and gives him a crimson flower enspelled to call her should he ever require her aid. In the upcoming films based on The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, Serafina Pekkala will be played by Eva Green. She has starred in movies such as Kingdom Of Heaven and the recent addition to the James Bond series, Casino Royale.
